Such a Strange Place

Justine sat at the top of the mountain, higher that the trees. The only point you could probaby see her from was on the trail leading into the cave, which was cleared of most trees. She'd only been in Skyshatter for a week or so. She still thinks it's a little strange, but it comforts her to know that she's living in a place with people just like her. Different. Fang, her brown tabby, got up and started jumping down the mountain. Justine was alone. And now she can feel it. She never liked being alone, because it gave her an empty feeling, which is why she was usually found in crowded places. But watching the sunset took her mind off of her being alone, and sent her to peace of mind.

Nathan had finally been given the tour of Skyshatter and was walking around diligently. He had heard of Mount Syra and had decided to check it out even though it was already starting to get dark. As he got close to the mountain, he stopped in the middle of the trail and looked at the sun. It was so beautiful as it set but some of the trees were getting in his way of the view. "Stupid trees," He muttered as the dark figure of Justine caught his eye. Turning his attention to her, he studied her in confusion. "Hey," He called. "Are you okay?"

Nathan startled Justine and she accidently fell down the mountain. She grabbed onto an outstreached root and hung there. "I uh... I think I need... help." She said akwardly, swinging.

He froze as he watched her fall until she had finally caught herself. With a slight sigh of relief, he ran over to where he was standing under her next to the side of the mountain. "Alright, Let go! I'll catch you," He told her with outstretched arms. "You can trust me."

Justine's eyes widened. "Are you sure?" she said, nervously.

"No," He retorted. "I'll let you fall and make your own hole in the ground. Of course I'll catch you!" He continued to hold out his arms. "I promise!"

With slight hesitation, Justine let go. She was extremly terrified.

He watched her fall with a slightly panicked look on his face but soon he got in the position to be able to catch her just right. Then, she fell right into his arms. It was a little difficult to keep her up from the velocity at which she was falling, but he caught her all the same. He then smiled. "See? I told you I would catch you."

Justine had her eyes closed when she was falling. She started to open them and found herself caught by Nathan. She got up. "Thank you." Justine said. "I owe you one." She looked back up at the hight in which she had fallen.

"Yes you do!" He replied with a large grin. "Actually nah, you don't. I'm the one that made you fall in the first place."

"But your also the one who saved me." Justine pointed out.

"Yes, but isn't that what men are supposed to do?" He gently set her down on her feet.

Justine blinked. "Women can save people too."

He blinked back at her. "I never said they couldn't," He replied. "It's just the job of a man to save a pretty girl."

Justine blinked again. "I'm a pretty girl?" She said. She never thought of herself as pretty before.

He smiled at her and nodded. "Of course you are! Do you not think you're pretty?" He asked her.

Justine thought for a second. "I don't think ive ever thought about myself as pretty..." She said.

"What? What has made you doubt yourself?" He responded, slamming.his fist into the palm of his other hand. "Do I need to beat someone up?"

Justine smiled. "I guess you do." She joked.

"Who is it?" He replied with a slight smile on his face. "Who's face do I need to beat in? 'Cause you know I'll do it."

Justine laughed. "Y'know, you're all right." She said. "We should hang out sometime."

"Yeah we should," Nathan replied with a wink. "What's your number? I can give you a call later."

Justine got her notepad and ripped a page off of it. She wrote down the number and handed it to him. "There you go. 232-455-1209." She said with a smile. "Oh, and I never got your name."

He grabbed the piece of paper, folded it up, and stuck it in his pocket. "Nathan Henderson. And you are..?"

"Justine Statris." She said with a smile. "Nice to meet you."
