Hope in the wake of a Tragedy

The date was November 5th, the entire Kokiri residence had gone out and Lydia had stayed home.

After what seemed like a long time, Cai entered the house.  He had had a bad feeling while at work, so he had returned home to check on Lydia.  Because, for some reason Cai can now sense this crap. Who knew? Anyway, he walked into the home, and, noticing the quiet, called out, "Hey, Lydia? Are you okay?" just your general concerned baby-daddy Cai voice, of course.

Liyra had come home as well worried about her best friend. Leyla was at the Nightray residence being baby say.

the first noticeable thing about the house was sounds of discomfort, slowly followed by a slightly noticeable yet cloying stench of copper

The scent hit Cai only a moment after he finished speaking. He recognized that scent, and knew it wasn't good, especially in this situation. Blood. And a pregnant lady left alone. He glanced at Liyra. "This is not good," he said, redundantly, before taking off down the hallway, following the scent in his hurry to find his babymomma friend.

Liyra was a bit stunned by Cai's actions but slowly followed after him after she got over the initial shock

Lydia was laying on the couch with a sleeping newborn in her arms. one of the couch cushions seemed entirely soaked with blood.

Cai found his way into the living room, his nose twitching at the smell. "Jesus Christ, Lydia. Why didn't you call us?" he asked, taking in everything all at once. The baby had been born, but it looked like Lydia'd lost a lot of blood in the process. Cai knew better than to mention going to the hospital, but he honestly had no idea what else to do. The first-aid kit had nothing for this kind of thing, and the one person he could call, John, had been missing for quite a while now.

Lydia smiled when she saw Cai and looked down at the newborn, her actions were weak and struggled as if they took a lot of effort. The phone in question was lying on the floor as if it had fallen of the side table next to the couch and out of reach.

Liyra walked in to the room a little later and noticed the scene, she gasped and immediately rushed to the kitchen to call 911. shortly after vomiting into the sink

Cai hadn't exactly registered the severity of the situation. He could, of course see that Lydia was very weak, and that there was a newborn baby, and that, again, there was a lot of blood. But they just didn't seem to be coming together until Liyra called 911. She's dying he thought, though it didn't seem right. He took a step forward, though he still didn't know what in the hell to do. "You want to give her a name?" he asked distantly, nodding to the baby who was sleeping peacefully.

"Take care of Mi.. yu..." Lydia struggled to say before her eyes closed and she fell limp.

Cai blinked. Why was it so hard for her to speak? He knew the answer, but he didn't at the same time. "Lydia?" he asked softly. She looked like she had fallen asleep, but not quite as peaceful.

the baby layed there quietly for a little bit before starting to squirm and beginning to cry softly.

The sounds of a baby stirred something in Cai's mind. He remembered the child, the one that had just been born; the one that Lydia held in her arms now. Gently, he took the baby from her. It was then that the full words of what his friend had said came to mind. Take care of Miyu Lydia had said. "Miyu..." he whispered as he held the girl now, hoping it would calm her. After all, her mother was dead now, so that was the father's job, right? "Liyra," he called, a bit louder now as he looked around for his wife. "Liyra, she's gone."

Liyra had been standing in the entrance way of the living room, she had seen everything that happened but didn't hear what Lydia had said. She didn't want to believe what was going on but she dropped the phone at Cai's words. It was a little while before she recovered. "I-Is that?.." she finally asked.

Cai simply gave a curt nod. He was too preoccupied with trying to keep the baby calm.

"Boy or girl?" Liyra asked in a stupor.

"Girl," he responded, no tone in his voice.

Liyra began to break into tears "...they're going to take her and put her in foster care.. she's an orphan.. Her father Got Lydia pregnant then just abandoned her and now Lydia's... " She began before being interrupted.

Cai was looking at the baby again. She was so small, so young, but she looked heavily of her mother; no one would be able to tell who the father was, that much was certain. Unless he told them. "No, that won't happen," he said quietly in response to Liyra. This was his last chance to keep the secret. But would Lydia want that? He hesitated before continuing. "He didn't abandon her," Cai said finally, looking up from Miyu now, to his wife. It was difficult to meet her eyes, but he did. If she looked, Liyra would see the truth.

"What are you talking about.. of course he abandoned her, she wouldn't be dead if he didn't! I swear if I ever find that man... She doesn't even have a name.." Lydia continued, unable to put two and two together in her current state.

Cai shook his head. He had to keep going. "Liyra. That man is right in front of you," he said, he voice leaving no ounce of doubt. It was obvious that he was telling the truth. "And Lydia did name her," Cai continued, "Miyu."

Liyra just fell to her knees and stared at the ground unresponsively.

"Liyra, I'm her father," Cai said it. Finally. It came out like the blunt Cai we all know, as iif he had finally broken out of his trance and decided to be normal. Yeah.

"Wh-what? What are you talking about?" Liyra asked, finally looking up at the two, she couldn't really see any resemblance which didn't help

"I'm the father," he repeated, locking eyes with his wife to drive the point home.

"Wha.. but h-how? Y-You mean you took advantage of my best friend?" Liyra said starting to get a little angry
